What exactly is Renuva?

Renuva is an allograft adipose matrix made from donated human adipose tissue. It does not contain living donor fat cells. It provides an extracellular-matrix framework in areas where native fat normally exists, and that framework is gradually remodeled as your own cells repopulate the area.

Is Renuva "FDA approved" like a dermal filler?

Renuva is FDA-regulated as a human cell, tissue, and cellular and tissue-based product (HCT/P), under a different framework from FDA-approved drugs and dermal-filler devices. This page intentionally does not call Renuva an "FDA-approved filler."

How is it different from hyaluronic-acid filler?

Hyaluronic-acid filler places a gel for immediate shape or volume and may be dissolvable with an enzyme. Renuva is a donor-derived tissue matrix intended for gradual remodeling in native-fat areas, and it is not reversible with filler-dissolving enzyme.

What are the important safety points?

Renuva is contraindicated for patients with significant allergies manifested by anaphylaxis or severe allergen sensitivity. Potential effects include allergic response, infection, immune response, discoloration, swelling, tenderness, redness, bruising, pain, or irritation. Donor screening and testing reduce, but cannot eliminate, the risk of infectious-disease transmission. Review the current Instructions for Use with a qualified clinician. [3]

Does Renuva replace a facelift?

No. Restoring soft-tissue volume does not remove excess skin or correct significant tissue descent. A responsible consultation should discuss when surgery, another nonsurgical treatment, or no treatment better fits the concern.
